Fall Cleanup Checklist
By ProMatcher Staff
It's that time of the year again!
Getting the outside of your home ready for winter is an important task. Raking leaves isn’t always enough. Fortunately, we’re here to help. Use this checklist to guide your fall cleanup.
1. Yard Cleanup
Towards the end of the season, your whole yard may need a general cleanup. Leaves are not the only thing that need to be removed. There are also sticks, twigs, and branches to remove from the lawn. A landscaping company can also trim trees, prune bushes, and prepare the lawn for the colder winter months. If you need help, ProMatcher is here to help. Click here for a free cost estimate.
2. Leaf Removal
If you have a small yard without any trees, this might be a DIY project. If you have a large yard with lots of trees, raking leaves can be a daunting task. There’s only so much work that one rake can do. You may want to consider hiring a professional leaf removal service.

3. Winterize Sprinklers
Before the first freeze, you’ll want to make sure to have your lawn sprinklers winterized. If you’re up for the task, you may need to rent an air compressor to blow out the water remaining in the underground pipes.

4. Close up the Pool
Once the temperature begins to drop, you’ll want to consider hiring a service to close up your pool for the season. Not sure who to call? Click here for a free cost estimate from a pro in your local area.
5. Weather Stripping
The garage door weather stripping may need to be replaced prior to the start of winter. Weather stripping provides additional insulation and prevents warm air from escaping the garage.
6. Gutter Cleaning
During the fall, falling leaves can easily clog up gutters. Gutter cleaning is a simple solution. It is important to make sure that the gutters are clear before the winter begins. Gutters will direct rain and snowfall away from your home and prevent excess water from seeping through the roof and into your home.

7. Chimney Inspection and Cleaning
The fireplace is most frequently during the winter. Before heating season begins, you should consider hiring a chimney cleaner to make sure that the area is clear of any hazardous debris. You may also consider installing a new chimney cap to prevent excess debris from accumulating in the flue.
8. Clean the Deck
Power washing the deck before the start of winter can help protect the wood from the season change. Applying a sealer or another protective coating can provide even more protection from the elements.
